It is with pleasure that I am writing this letter of recommendation for Katherine (Katie) Schwartz. I have had the pleasure of being Katie’s soccer coach during her freshmen year when she made the Varsity girls soccer team. I can attest to Katie’s work ethic, leadership skills, and dedication to the sport as I have witnessed them first hand.

Katie has proven to be a hard-working young lady who strives to be a leader for those around her. As a freshman, Katie earned a spot on the Varsity soccer team. She joined a group of girls who had been playing together for several years. For many players, this might have been a difficult situation but Katie quickly adjusted and became an integral part of the team. Although she might not have been the most outspoken, she was still a leader nonetheless; she is one that leads by example. At practices and games, Katie always put forth 100% effort. Her dedication to the sport and to making the team better was obvious every day.

A mark of a leader is being able to know when to lead and when to follow the example of others. Katie has demonstrated this ability time and again both on and off the field. At practice, Katie will listen to others’ ideas and join in to improve and enhance others’ ideas for the good of the team. While making her contributions to team discussions, Katie articulates her point of view in a passionate manner. She always puts the good of the team before any of her own interests.

Katie is very comfortable having the ball at her feet and has a strong understanding of the game. She is able to anticipate what her opponent is going to do, making it easier for her to win 50/50 battles. She is able to distribute the ball well to her teammates in difficult situations creating dangerous scoring opportunities. Katie also understands when it is appropriate to take the shot herself, making it challenging for the other team to anticipate what she is going to do.

As a freshman, Katie also earned several soccer related honors. She earned the “PEHS Golden Boot” award for having scored the most goals. She was honored by the Southwest Prairie Conference when she was selected to the “All Conference Team”. She also earned a spot on the “All Sectional Team” in an extremely competitive and talent-heavy sectional. We do not play the majority of the teams in the Sectional; however, enough coaches were familiar with Katie and her statistics proved that she should be selected. She was the only freshman selected to the team.

In addition to her strong work ethic, Katie possesses a great sense of humor. She consistently brings a positive attitude to all situations and through her attitude, she inspires others to always look at the bright side. Even during the toughest of practices and workouts, Katie was one that still found the joy in friendly competition and the hard work that is necessary to better the team.

Katie’s dedicated and hardworking personality is evident in her various accomplishments. She is a responsible young lady that is tremendously motivated toward all of her goals. Based upon her proactive work ethic, extreme dedication to her teammates and passionate attitude, I highly recommend that Katie be given an opportunity to impress you both athletically and socially.
